A Fresh Coat of Paint & a New Look

If you've ever read my blog before today, then you may realize that not only have I made a few changes to the appearance, but I've changed the name of the blog completely. While I may still play with fonts, colors, and the background, I'm hoping to stick with the new name.

One More Home

During the adoption process, most families will have a fundraiser or two to try and help with the cost of bringing their little one home. We were no different, and one of the ways we have tried to raise funds was through the sale of t-shirts. I worked with my fabulously talented friend Lucy who is handy dandy at designing such things. I knew I wanted something big and bold across the front, but, what should our shirt say? I searched the internet for ideas and I finally stumbled upon the slogan, "One More Loved." It's a lovely sentiment, but I didn't like the fact that, between the lines, it could be read that this child was not loved until they reached our family. And, that's just not true. Psalm 139:13-14 says,

"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well."

Whether or not any person born into this life has ever had another human express love to them, they are loved. Each and every orphan child is created by a Creator who formed every cell of their body, knows every thought they will ever have, sees every moment of their lives, and longs for them to know salvation through grace and mercy. They are loved.

Upon further thought, I had the idea to trade the last word, making the phrase "One More Home." True to the words on the shirt, by purchasing one, the buyer was helping bring one more child home to her family. But the more I thought about, the more the idea expanded.

Yes, I do want our daughter home, but I also want "One More Home" to be a non-stop adventure of other families bring their children home. Why can't one more become two more, three more, fifty more, one hundred more?

Change the emphasis to the word home, and it's an invitation for one more home to step up and do something to affect the lives of the millions of orphans around the world. One more home adopting, fostering, mentoring, loving, hitting the mission field. One by one, families taking James 1:27 and letting it become a moving force in their lives, glorifying God by loving on those that others have tossed aside. I want "One More Home" to be contagious. I want people to see that there is something each and every one of us can do. It's not just my home, it's yours.

So, join the journey with me. Make the move to become the one more to serve the one more.

** If you are interested in purchasing a "One More Home" t-shirt, we have plenty left and would appreciate the support! They're grey t-shirts with the big center logo on the front as seen in the painting above. I have Adult small through 2XL, and each shirt is $10.00. Please email me at christyholleran@gmail.com **
